In discussing this small press anthology, one needn't even use the qualifier "Maine" -- the poems in this collection are as accomplished as anything from the mainstream houses. Tremendous. Additionally, at a whopping 176 pages, it's a truckload of poetry for ten dollars. The individual collections were grand enough; having nearly all the poems in one place verges on incredible.
...Moon Pie Press continues to amaze me with their quality, their vision, and their energy.

I Took Her Hand in Mine

I took her lank hand in mine,
And only then became aware
A lifelong hate was spent
And I was clasping love.
She was ninety
Letting go of the world
There would be no time
Left to tell her this--
This almost impostor
Who by dying in her bed,
Her breasts gone
Her smile in the drawer
With the rings
Her fingers were too thin
To bear, and my remorse
Too thick.
